The Little Bunny Bear Bag That Couldn't

If you are unaware of what a bunny bear bag (aka usakumya) is, it's a stuffed animal styled purse released by BtSSB. It's rather hard to get a hold of and is usually very expensive when it does pop up for sale. Up until now the bunny bear has been left alone by the hoards of knock-off sellers, sure, Bodyline released a few generic stuffed animal totes, and Leg Avenue even released a knockoff of Innocent World's rabbit purse, but no one had ever released something that was obviously supposed to be a bunny bear knock-off. Well, until this:

This sad little creature is supposed to be a bunny bear bag. In case you don't recall what they look like, here's a picture of the original Baby, the Stars Shine Bright bunny bear bag:
They look similar, they look very similar, but the knock-off looks very... well, off. I think it's the flat face and the tiny little red eyes placed on either side of the nose. Instead of looking charming and cute, it manages to look both terror stricken and forlorn. I almost feel bad for the poor knock-off bunny bear bag, like maybe a hug and a pat on it's strangely wide little head as well as a "There there, I know you're not brand, but you can still be cute," is all it needs.

I'm not just hating on this sad little squish faced bear simply because it's not brand. Not at all, if this was just some cheap knock-off you could pick up off of Bodyline for $10, I would be all over it, like I said, it's cute in a sad sort of way. What makes this knock-off so hilariously bad is that it's being sold for nearly $60. Yes, this little guy, who's quality is probably on par with something you would fish out of a claw machine in a Denny's lobby, is being sold for nearly as much as the original bunny bear. You can actually buy mini bunny bears for cheaper than this knock-off!

What do you think of this little guy? Is he sad enough to love? Cuter than the original? Or a will his beady little eyes be haunting your nightmares tonight? I'm also curious to know what people think of stuffed animal bags in general in the Lolita fashion. Personally, I can't really see myself using them very much, and I think they're useless if their compartment is so small that you have to carry a real purse with you, but I think they go really well with OTT Sweet outfits.

  1. That replica is frightening. ;A;
The eyes are too... idk too close together and too small. Something is just out of place. Also the material looks like cheap felt. It doesn't look soft and lovable like an usakumya should!

  2. It reminds me of the Velveteen Rabbit. I pity it.

  3. Eeep that thing looks like it would eat my soul! But I do feel sorry for the poor lamb it's like the ugly puppy nobody wants to take home, bless x

I have a bunny bear bag (the HUGE one which actually can fit stuff in) and I adore it but more in a collectable plush novelty sort of sense than a bag, I've only used it twice once being part of a "costume" http://cateaclysmic.blogspot.com/2010/10/daily-outfit-fighting-for-justice.html it's not really an everyday sort of bag but saying that most of the bags I own are novelty in way I mean they one I'm currently using is telephone shaped LoL!

  5. I find him really creepy! I think Usakumya is adorable, but this guy is just slightly scary! Haha it did make me laugh though.

  6. Are you kidding $60. I am falling more and more in love with him the more I see him but I think I'll just make my own depressed bunny bear.

  7. I think it'd be a lot more cute if the material was more plushy and less felt-y. That being said, I think stuffed animal bags look more like a prop than an actual accessory, which makes the whole outfit look a bit more costumey. I think usakumya is cute, but as a stuffed animal, not as my purse o.o

  8. Those knock-offs remind me of the stuffed animals they sell for dogs in pet stores D:

While the usakumya are really cute, they seem a bit too costumey, but, that aside, they're just impractical, since you can't fit much in them. I'd rather just tote around one of my old stuffed animals :3

  9. Aside from the comment already made several times about fabric, I think the main thing for me is... I don't know, his head is just too... Flat, or something. It's not the right shape. The thing that gets me is the price, though. That's just sad.

  10. I think usakumyas are really cute! I kind of don't care that mine's impractical. Actually, he proved his worth last time I visited NYC, I could leave my usual monster-bag in the hotel room & just carry my cell phone, ID & some cash in my Usa.

This one though? Eh, I think one could make a better bag using a regular stuffed animal. It really is the oddly-shaped head that throws it off, and the weird fabric (I guess that's the best they could do to replicate Usakumya's signature curly fleecy fur, but... yikes)

  11. Ohhh, he looks so sad!! HE NEEDS FRIENDS. LET US MAKE HIM LOVELY KNOCK OFF FRIENDS. Like, a scary Milky-chan! They would be friends, I bet!

  12. o.o oh lord....is it sad I want to hug that? I'd even buy it for $10...but not $60. Though it's strangely appealing.

  13. ahahahahaha. This poor thing. I laughed so hard at this post. It's kind of cute but NEVER in a MILLION years for $60. And it would probably become more of my cats toy than mine.

  14. I have a thing with Plushies,I feel sad because it looks so weird and who would ever buy it for 60$. Poor thing

  15. It looks so depressed in the photos! It is like it is saying "Nobody loves my flat face..." At $60 I think I am going to have to give this a miss but I hope this bag finds at least one friend.

  16. That's exactly how I felt for the bag ... who will love him at that price? :(

  17. ''Tt's cute in a sad sort of way'' - thaaat pretty much sums up what I think. xD
But yeah, I doubt anyone's gonna buy this at 60$. Makes me feel a bit sorry for it...

  18. I think someone called it... derpy? That's kinda how I feel about it :/ But it also makes me laugh a little... cause he's so pathetic... he looks like the kid the other brand items would laugh at :x XD

  19. It's like the abandoned, deformed little brother of the original. D; It's sad.

I'm not a huge fan of stuffed animal purses for myself (I like practical bags!), but some girls can rock them. Once at a con where they were selling mini bunny bears, some girls and I were joking that the only thing you can fit in them is drugs.

  20. You just formed a smile over my face with that last coment XD

  21. It reminds me of the plush I made for one gift exchange (I still curse the one that got the idea of making the rule of having everything handmade) Mine was all creepy too and had his two feet fused and his arms were in perfect perpendicular with the rest of the body... we ended dubbed it "mutant plushie jesus"... I am so going to hell...
Now If I just remebered that cookies and deserts are considered handmade too...

$60 you.... that is just not worth it. I can find an actually useful and durable bag for that price... I bet you can even buy a normal plush doll and have it modified.

  22. If the price ever drops to $10 let's buy matching sad stuffed animal bags. Then they can keep each other company.

  23. It reminds me of the fourth PowerPuff Girl, Bunny. She was ugly, but had a heart of gold! XD

  24. I don't like this replica. It looks so cheap and not lovely (but what should I say? I love the Btssb-Usakumya, so no replica would impress me xD)

In general, I'm not such a big fan of stuffed animal bags, but since I saw Usakumya or Milky-chan bags so often, they are more bags than stuffed animals for me ^.^

  25. Aww poor retarded bear :3

  26. To me the replica just seems poorly sewn and of general bad quality. Though, since I love the original, but don't want to pay a fortune, I would probably buy a replica if it looked almost the same. I hope they realize how much more money they could make if they did a better copy ^^

  27. Yeah....this one looks pretty pathetic. I think...if he were black and had a couple of randomly placed stitches I could dig it...but certainly not for $60!

I like the idea of animal plushie bags. I rarely carry much in my purse...some chapstick, ID, and a metro pass...so one of those might be perfect for me. Of course, only if it's cute and punky in a Gothic way.

  28. So close.. so very close... and then the face got hit with a truck or something. but really, nice try

  29. It looks so sad ):
But I think I'll stick with my real bunny bear bag

  30. If it was well under a tenner, I'd consider buying it XD then plonking it on my bed with my five bears, Kitty~chan, rather miffed looking Miffy, ragdoll, bat, rabbit, and others (;>__>) but, it would never get used as a bag! As you said "terror stricken and forlorn", and thats not a mixture of moods I want draping from my back when out,,,I already confuse people enough (^_^) I'd rather wear my Gizmo backpack, that my parents got me around '98 from some card/gift shop for christmas (>_<) I burst into tears since I only ever wanted one Gizmo(that I'd got for my fourth christmas, by request), and suddenly I'm bombarded by too many mogwai all claiming to be Gizmo (O_O) anyways, I'm not really into brand maskots(or however its spelt). Only took me until recently to start appreciating teddy bears, since I picked a mogwai instead of a bear as a wee girl.

  31. I've been aware of this unfortunate bear for a while and have been waiting for someone to mention it.
The price is unreal, nearly as much as the brand. You may as well throw in the extra cash instead of buying the copy

  32. I have a Baby, the stars shine bright one :) I named it Boo, I'm so proud actually...I managed to get it for £75.

  33. The way you keep referring to it as having a squished face makes it remind me of pugs XD 'Cause that's what my mom always says about them.
Anyway, I think the fact that it's not nearly as fluffy as the original also makes it look kinda matted and cheap...I wish it had a chance but...no, it's not happening.

In other news, I'm not a fan of animal bags in general, however, Baby got it right with the bunny bears. It's a little subtler than the stiff blue-and-purple unicorns and shiny fluffmonster puppies I've seen. It actually resembles a cute stuffed animal that just happens to be strapped to your back...

  34. Yes!  Lol, it DOES look "stricken and forlorn" with those little eyes!  Oh that's sad.  The originals are so cute though.

  35. I have a giant old brown bunny backpack and a black horse backpack that... I will admit... I have been carrying around since I can remember... I used one or the other all the way through school until I graduated....My friends all said it was an endearing... "Child-like" quality and that it was "Fun to hide from you when you weren't looking" I still love my animal bags but I don't think Id wear them with Lolita for fear of looking too childish..... The brown bunny actually had enough room for all my stuff and I carried my books in him.

  36. I wish I could find the old version of usakumya. Y'know? The one that looks like a chimera.
