If you feel like attempting to tackle this list with me, there are a few ways you can go about doing it. You can either just go down the list at one question every week until the end of the year, or you tackle in all at once like a survey, or you can do what I'm going to do! If I see a list like this I'll see questions on it that I might not feel like answering at the moment, for whatever lazy reason I have, so I will just dread doing it and give up, so what I'm going to do is write down these questions on little slips of paper then put them all in a jar. Every week I'll pull a new one out and answer it! For me it will be a physical reminder to complete this challenge.

Considering it's a whole new year, now is as good as a time as any to start this. The first week's question that I pulled was:
Something that's not my style, but I love anyways
Over the years I've come to the realization that, despite how much I might love something, if it's not my style I'm probably not going to feel comfortable wearing it, and I'll eventually just start to dislike it. I've learned that it's okay to like a style without feeling the need to wear it.
One of my major "Oh my gosh I love that, but I'd totally never wear it!" items are Baby's Rococo styled dresses from about 2007-2008... in white.
I love everything about these dresses! I love the frilly open fronts, the giant bell sleeves, the massive amounts of ruffles and lace, and I think that in white, they're even prettier. They remind me of the even older Old School trend of "Angelic Lolita", only even more over the top.
However, as much as I love looking at these dresses, and seeing other people in them, I simply can't imagine myself ever wearing one! Besides the fact that they're usually a few hundred dollars out of my price rage, I would be too paranoid to ever wear an all white outfit for any extended amount of time, and I can't really imagine any of them would look very flattering on me. Most of all, they're probably the exact opposite of the styles that I feel comfortable wearing, so I can only imagine wearing one of these gorgeous dresses would probably be an incredibly awkward and uncomfortable experience!
What about the rest of you? Anything out there you love, but you just can't imagine every actually wearing it?
Thank you so much for sharing!! I totally want to join this challenge now. *A*
ReplyDeleteI understand you! I've got the same feeling when it comes to a full white and frilly outfit. I love these but I would feel so uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteBut there is something else what I really love - I like very cute - nearly childish - Angelic Pretty dresses. With toys and ponys and all that stuff! But no way I will wear them! I am quite tall and I think my face looks just a lot more "classic" than "sweet". I would look and feel absolutely awkward in those dresses.
But I still enjoy watching other Lolitas wearing them.
Agreed. I really do like white dresses, especially if they're frilly and just that solid color (white suits me a lot better than a solid color like black), but white has this stigma attached to it for me about it getting dirty. I'd be ashamed if I owned one and accidently dirtied it or not notice that it got messed up somehow.
DeleteOMG, totally joining it!
ReplyDeleteAbout things I love but I'll never wear... JetJ's Le Parfum de Jésus. I mean, I love art pieces on my dresses, but cannot stand wearing Christ's face on my chest!
I'll be joining this. I've been putting off starting up my j-fashion blog for too long now and decided today is the day I'm going to start. Also, no joke - I cried when I saw the dresses. The second one is my dream dress and I cannot find it anywhere. It's kind of creepy / hilarious that someone just asked me about this not even thirty minutes ago too!
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I'm going to try this challenge! Still kind of a newbie, but I'm a very opinionated one :)
ReplyDeleteLol actually maybe not :p I haven't been in the fashion long enough to have a true answer for some of these. I'm really keen to read all yours though!
DeleteOh the beautiful Rococo dresses, I also find them so pretty but I would feel totally overdressed with them at a Lolita meet-up!
ReplyDeleteI really love Elegant Aristocrat, but usually I wear only Sweet Lolita, because EGA outfits are too dark and gothic for me. But I admire all the outfits from other people and thats okay for me ^_^
If you don't mind, I will probably translate this to Portuguese and put it on my blog this week!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to join the Lolita Blog Carnival too (but just to monitor the posts for inspiration, not to really participate in it, since I wouldn't be able to since I blog in Portuguese) but I was never added by the moderators...
I love those dresses too! As for me, I would never wear an absurdly expensive print such as Iron Gate or Puppet Circus. I would be too terrified of ruining it!
Feel free to translate this :)
DeleteSorry about not being added to the LBC! But we really only add people who can participate in it to keep things more organized!
I love this challenge and I'll do it in my tumblr!!
ReplyDeleteTotally exciting and a really good idea :D
ReplyDeleteI will definitely try it out ^^
I will join the challenge too. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWill definetly doing some sort of posts about this challenge, maybe at once, pick a few or something else fitting my own posting style. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the rococo-styled dresses and also old school lolita fashion. I think it's very important for everyone to feel comfortable in their outfits, otherwise it will show and the look doesn't work. Couple of lolita styles I can't really imagine myself doing, or at least more than just trying once or twice, are decora and fairykei. I just can't cover myself in that many accessories and all kind of other "extra"-thingies. I also think if I only wear very pale pastels and a wig to match it, I would just look stupid. :P
~ Frillycakes ~
I definitely agree about being comfortable in what you're wearing! Confidence definitely can make or break an outfit.
DeleteI can never really do the accessory-driven styles either! I just am no good with wearing lots of accessories. I seriously can't stand wearing rings or things on my wrist most of the time!
Yeah there are a few things that I LOVE the look of, but would never be able to wear, myself. At the very top of that list would be: GURO LOLITA. There are girls out there who know how to pull off that look just right, so that it looks intentional but not costume-ish. Something about strategic tatters, the right number and placement of bandage-style accessories, just the right amount of dark red dye spattered in just the right way on just the right kind of white dress... and voila! Guro Lolita that actually looks more like a fashion statement than a cosplay! I've seen it, I've admired it, and I'd love to try and do it myself, but I know I'd never be able to pull it off. With my face and my figure, I just know the whole statement behind the look would be lost, and, even done just right, I would look like some woman wearing a weird costume. And even if no one else thought it looked bad on me, I would be thinking it and feeling totally awkward the whole time. Oh, well. Guess I'll just stick to my standard classic and casual looks.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I've never seen a Guro coordinate that doesn't look costumey! Although, I am pretty sure the whole point of it is to go over the top and costumey xD I've even done it before and loved it that way! It's definitely a style that's reserved for photoshoots or very, very specific events!
DeleteThe idea with the jar is really lovely! I agree with you for not daring to wear a white band dress (^.^) If I'm ever going to get married, I'd probably wear a white Baby dress (if I can get one), but otherwise I'm not the person to wear a lot of white.
ReplyDeleteI am so doing this for my blog! Thanks for the inspiration. I also have to agree about those rococo pieces! They are so pretty but so, so impractical.
ReplyDeleteThese are really great questions, thank you! I'm answering them on my blog on tumblr, glitter-prince-- modified for Ouji style! (Obviously not every single one will work, but most translate really well and they're such interesting questions to answer. I hope that's okay!)
ReplyDeleteThose old Baby dresses make me feel all warm and nostalgic for old-school Sweet Lolita. O for a maxipad headdress and some big chunky white platform mary-janes. But it's not the sort of thing I'd wear either! xD
Wow thanks for this meme I decided to join it !!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do understand you for the Baby dress, they're such the picture of lolita but too much for me, I can't imagine me wearing them.
Happy New Year!
Thanks for sharing!! This is a very good idea I might try!! :D
ReplyDeleteThe dresses are so princess-ish! They are lovely, but unfortunately something I would buy cause I wouldn't wear very often :/
Great challenge, thanks for sharing! Going to start doing it this week too~
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I am definitely going to start this challenge as well! Work has been so busy for me I have had little to no time to do any real new videos lately, and I think this is the little push I need! I might end up pulling them out of a jar every week too ;p
ReplyDeleteFor me, I will probably NEVER EVER wear a Sweet Print in Lolita. I love Sweet Lolita on other people, but I think I'm more suited to Classic, Gothic, Punk, Aristocrat...etc. If I do wear anything Sweet, it's usually of the really old school persuasion and incredibly simple.
ReplyDeleteJoining the challenge for sure :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is, 'my wardrobe turnover'?
ReplyDeleteOh sorry if that one seems kind of weird! Like how often you sell things to get new stuff!
DeleteI think I will try doing this too- I've been lacking in inspiration for my blog lately and these are some great questions!
ReplyDeleteOne of those things I love to look at but will probably never wear are bonnets. I LOVE those very classic-style, velvet bonnets, but I just don't have any reason to wear them.
I joined your challenge on my blog! The topics are very interesting and I think it will help me to post more regularly :)
ReplyDeleteHello! I am a former Lolita who still reads your blog, and when I saw this 52 week Lolita list, i got the idea to redo it to fit my current goth style. I did link back and credit you so I hope you don't mind. Here's the link to my own blog.http://darstalkergirl.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteJoining!
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about this! I just made my first post with this meme. I think it's cute, and I had been wanting to update my blog more so this serves as a lovely jumping off point. Thanks for making this!
ReplyDeletehm, I think my phone ate my comment to this; anyways, I think this is a neat list, and I'd love to try it (though, to be honest, I'm afraid I'm not organized enough to do exactly one each week in order). I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on the different prompts!
ReplyDeletei love these challenges and i think they're the perfect way for me to get to post more! otl
ReplyDeletei started doing this today with the movie recommendation challenge, #2: http://pizza-kei-cute.blogspot.com/2013/02/lolita-52-challenge-5-movies-for-lolitas.html
i'm going to have to try and complete all of these. thank you for making such a great challenge!
I keep attempting to start blogging then fail after a couple of posts... I'm also fairly new to the blogging and even the Lolita circle - Because of this, I've been a regular visitor lately, so - thanks for doing these blogs and I shall endeavor to do this challenge ^_^
ReplyDelete>:3 Joining this challenge!
ReplyDeletewhoo whoo!
I think I might try this too; I've been having writer's block for a while now, so this should help!
ReplyDeleteThis is great ! I was looking for a new meme (as I already did the 30 days thing) and I love these questions !
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start this tomorrow on my blog !
This looks like a fun set of questions! :D I might try to tackle this challenge soon. Thank you for posting this. ^-^
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! Can I translate this into spanish and put it on my blog? :D I am a member of a FB community of lolita bloggers who blog in spanish called 'Rosas de Azucar' (Sugar Roses) and this seems like a cool activity! :D
ReplyDeleteFeel free to translate it :)
DeleteIs it quite alright for me to do this too?
ReplyDeleteI miss it last year, so I'm starting it with this new one!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your hard work!
